Alone in Paris BLOG

Hey guys! I have some news. Not big news, but news.

I started an Alone in Paris blog so you guys have one place to go to look at anything involving Alone in Paris. Here is the link, http://aloneinparisbook.blogspot.com.

And now I'm going to tell you a little bit about it. So I came up with the idea to start a blog for Alone in Paris about 4 hours ago, while I was procrastinating. I'm supposed to be studying right now. I'm struggling to focus. I'll study for my quiz eventually, don't worry.

But anyway, I came up with the idea thanks to #authorlifemonth. I've been actively posting on Instagram to get connected with you all and to inform you about my writing/author journey. It's been fun and I have 16 more days to go so the fun isn't over yet! But since I'm doing #authorlifemonth, I got the idea to make a blog that only involves things for AIP. Nothing super fancy, but fun nonetheless.

Anything that has to do with AIP will be posted to this blog. Pictures, collages, snippets, quotes, chapters, and the book trailer I plan to release at the end of this month will all be posted to this website. Everything you need to know about AIP will be on this website is basically what I'm saying.

I hope you all enjoy this new addition to Alone in Paris. Thank you all for the support and I hope you guys have fun with this!

Here is the link one more time: http://aloneinparisbook.blogspot.com

Writing Update: I've Finished Editing Alone in Paris!

New update on my upcoming book Alone in Paris!

I've finished editing Alone in Paris! So excited and happy about the progress with Alone in Paris. It really has come along way since I was fourteen and even more so since I rewrote it and started polishing it for publication.

Alone in Paris started out as an idea I had when I was 14. I wrote a few chapters for it while I was writing another book, and found it too difficult to write 2 books at once so I put Alone in Paris aside for the time being. It wasn't until I was 17 (maybe almost 18) that I picked up Alone in Paris again with the intent to complete it.

I deleted most of the chapters that I wrote when I was 14, only keeping the gist of the first few chapters but completely changing up the writing. I rewrote those chapters because they were horrible, and got to work.

I had the story pictured perfectly in my mind at that point and I just wrote it down as it came to me. I don't remember how long it took me to write, but I edited it 3 times after I finished it and that took me a year. This was the 4th and final time I am editing Alone in Paris and I feel like it's come a long way and it's where I want it to be now.

I'm going to write a post about how I got the idea for Alone in Paris and give more details about it soon, but for now, I just wanted to share with you that I've finished the editing process and that I'm closer to sharing it with you all!

Next year is going to be crazy and scary for me since I think I want to move at the end of next spring, but I still plan on launching Alone in Paris next year!

I keep all of my followers updated on what I'm doing on the social media platforms below. Follow me and keep in touch! I will also be doing quite a few giveaways for Alone in Paris next year so you're definitely going to want to follow me if you want to enter!

Struggling with Writing (What I've Been Up To)

I've been slacking off again. I've had a lot of tests lately and I've been having writing struggles since the beginning of this year. And now finals are just around the corner so I'm going to slack off with blogging some more. I'm sorry. I just can't find the time to get around to blogging. Any free time I have goes into hanging out with my friends or writing.

So I mentioned that I've been having writing struggles since the beginning of this year. It's been brutal. I started writing a series and pretty much flew through writing the first one, but then I started writing the sequel in January and it was going well...for about the first 15 pages, and then it went south.

I felt like the plot was too slow and uninteresting and I just wasn't happy with it, but I was forcing myself to write even though I wasn't excited or interested in writing at all. It was pretty agonizing.

But then my Writing Buddy, Nadia--who I write book reviews with on another blog (we've been slacking over there too)--suggested that I take a step back from that project and take some time off. I had already done that and I wasn't happy about it because I would go weeks without writing and wouldn't feel the urge to write at all during that time.

So then she suggested that I start on a new project and come back to the sequel later. And that's what I did. I stepped back from the sequel about two weeks ago and started working on a new book idea that I came up with about a month ago. Since then, my writing has improved and I feel excited to write! I make time for it now and I feel the urge to write again! I'm very excited about this new book, but I've probably jinxed myself now by talking about how great it's going lol.

Summer is going to start soon and I'm only going to be taking one class between working and writing so I'm hoping I'll be able to get back into blogging at least once every two weeks, but we'll see.

Have a good weekend and happy writing! <3

A Writing Playlist

So, I didn't do what I said I was going to about keeping up with blogging while on spring break, and I did not write any posts for the future. I got wrapped up in writing and spending time with my friends so I'm just going to try to wing it for the next few weeks and blog when I can.

But, today, I thought I'd talk about writing playlists.

Studies have shown that listening to music increases brain function. Some disagree because they think that the lyrics in songs replace thoughts. I think it depends on the person. Everyone is different and everyone has different ways of writing. Some need complete silence to write, others listen to music to help with the flow.

For me, I can't write in total silence but if people around me are being too loud, I need to block them out by listening to music. If it's not too loud around me, then I don't listen to music. It just depends on where I am and what kind of scene I'm writing that day.

Everyone has different musical tastes and the theme of your book will also tie into the kind of music you listen to while you write. The kind of music you listen to doesn't matter as long as it helps with your writing. To write a sad scene, some people have to listen to sad music to get them in the mood to write a good, believable scene. Listening to different genres of music can easily change your mood.

For the series I'm writing right now, the playlist is really short but this is what I have so far:

Enchanted Series Playlist

Waiting Game - by Banks
My Blood - by Ellie Goulding
Dead in the Water - by Ellie Goulding
I Love You - by Woodkid
Alive - by Sia
Elastic Heart - by Sia
Begging for Thread - by Banks
Howl - by Florence + The Machine
Outside - by Calvin Harris
Hollow - by Tori Kelly
Rumour Mill - by Rudimental
Tenerife Sea - by Ed Sheeran
Kiss - by Ed Sheeran
Give Me Love - by Ed Sheeran
Everything Has Changed - by Taylor Swift

Okay, now go make your own playlist!

Happy writing! <3

Why I Write

The undeniable desire to get words down on paper is strong, especially when those words turn into something greater. Words become pages, which develop into a story and people that seem real to you and others that read your words.

Everyone writes for different reasons. Maybe you like to create things--places, people, or stories--or maybe you write because it relaxes you in some way. Eliminating your characters can be a real stress-reliever lol.

I write for the rush. The undeniable desire to be someone else is strong at times. I can't deny the words that fly through my head. Every fight scene; every kissing scene; every idea sends a rush through my veins. This rush usually causes me to crank up my music, like now (good thing I took American Sign Language as my second language in high school because I turn it up loud enough that I could end up deaf one day). The beat of the music and the feel of the words causes the words to flow from my mind and down to my fingers.

I write because I love it. It is as simple as that. I write to escape and be someone who can fight an enemy with one hand tied behind her back. I write to be someone who doesn't have to worry with things that I do, but instead, worry about escaping a labyrinth. When I write, my worries and the world around me fades away. I find myself in another world that I wish was real.

I read for the same reason; to not be me for a while. I was going to the bookstore every month, and leaving with a stack of 4 or 5 books. Reading was an escape for me before I started writing. Though, reading doesn't compensate writing for me. They're not so different but I want to be the one writing the story for someone else. I have to write almost every day so the words don't build up in my system.

Happy writing! <3

Update: Busy

   I know, I know; I haven't posted anything in a while. I'm sorry! But I have a good excuse.

I'm trying to finish the book that I've been working on these last few months by the end of the year.

I'm working on a trilogy and I'm close to being done with Book #1 of the Enchanted Trilogy, so I just really want to finish it by the end of the year so I can start 2016 by starting on Enchanted Book #2. My goal is to have the last 2 books done before the end of 2016, which shouldn't be too hard. At least, I'm hoping. Things are starting to get a little crazy with me because of my school,my jobs, and because I'm trying to get my last completed work published; all while writing Book #1 of Enchanted.

I just reached 40,000 words in Enchanted #1 (115 pages) so I'm pretty confident that I'll have it finished by December 31st. The story is about to get intense so I should just fly through it! I also have a ton of notes for the last 20-30 pages, so I doubt I'll get writer's block.

I just reorganized my story-notes and I'm ready to finish Book #1 to get to Book #2!

Happy writing! <3

Motivating Yourself to Write

It's November, and you know what that means. It's National Novel Writing Month!

While I'm not participating this year, I know that it can be a struggle to find time to sit down and write, and to also motivate yourself to sit down and write. It's a struggle.

It's hard to write an entire book in 30 days! But I'm sure you can do it! Writing a book is a huge step, especially if this is your first book, so I thought I would share some ways to inspire/motivate yourself to write. Also, I know it's half way over now but I thought I would just share a few tips on getting yourself motivated to write. Better late than never!

Reading a really good book always inspires me to write, especially if the book is by an author that I admire, because I aspire to write as well as them. Reading a book by an author you admire can challenge you!

Listening to an upbeat song before you write, or during, can get your heart racing and give you that exciting buzz you need to get typing!

Taking a small break can also help motivate you. If you're stressed from life then sitting down to write might not always be what you want to do, but if you go take a walk or just relax at home for a bit, I'm sure you'll feel refreshed enough to get cracking on that book of yours!

Going out in your neighborhood can also inspire you! If you live in a city, you can go out and walk around for a bit, watch people and other things to

Just do it! Sometimes the most helpful motivation is to just sit down and stare at your blank page for a bit until you feel like you're ready to get typing.

Writing Inspiration

A lot of things can inspire me to write.

I can't tell you how many times I've zoned out at the dinner table while thinking about books, writing, more books, random things, etc. I get a lot of my book ideas while I'm zoned out in my own La La Land. I also get a lot of book ideas when I can't sleep at night...When I first started writing, I had to keep a notebook by my bed because I didn't have a phone at the time. The "Notes" App really comes in handy in the middle of the night.

Some of my ideas for things that I want to happen in a current book I'm writing, or a book I plan on writing, also come from conversations. I can be talking to a friend, or a family member and they'll say something that makes a light bulb appear above my head like in a Loony Tunes cartoon.

Music also inspires me. It gets me pumped up and excited to write, especially if the lyrics/beat match the current mood of my story. It's hard for me to write without music. I don't know how some authors go without it. I feel like I'm more focused and in-the-zone.

Sometimes when I read a really good book I can get, what I call, "The Writing Itch." Reading a few pages of my current read can give me the push I need to sit down at my computer and start typing. Though sometimes it can have the opposite effect and make me do this:

My constantly-active imagination makes it easy to come up with random ideas to throw into a book. To let my imagination run completely wild, all I have to do is put on my headphones, and listen to music. If I don't have music, it's difficult for me to write. Very difficult.

Inspiration is all around us, you just have to pay attention. Whether you draw, or paint, or write books, short stories, poetry, etc. there is always something that inspires us. We take in the life and interactions around us and imbed them in our creations.

So go out this weekend and get inspired! Go with that gut feeling you have once you get inspired and follow through with it.

How to Come Up With a Book Title

I know, I disappeared for a while. I'm sorry! I went to the beach with my cousins, came back with a cold, and I've been studying, but I'm back now and we're going to be talking about book titles today.

I had the hardest time coming up with a title for The Darkest Light. I was more than halfway finished with the book before I finally thought of a title, so I know how frustrating it is when you have most of your novel planned out, yet don't have this very important piece of the book figured out.

Coming up with a title should be the easiest part, right? No, it's not. Publishers sometimes change titles to make the book seem more intriguing to readers. What are the first two things that catches the eyes of a book browser? The cover (or spine, depending on how it is set on the shelf) and the title. That phrase, "Don't judge a book by it's cover" doesn't apply to a lot of people (myself included, as far as books go).

A title is supposed to represent your book's subject without giving too much away. At least, this is the case for a fictional book. When writing non-fiction, I would assume you would have to have a more out-right title, like the book I read on self-publishing, "How to Publish, Promote, & Sell Your Own Book: The insider's guide to everything you need to know about self-publishing from pasteup to publicity" by

A title is supposed make reader's curious, so being subtle is key when coming up with a title for your novel. I have some tips for coming up with a title for your novel. I hope this helps!

 1. You can use a word, or more than one word, from a sentence from your book. You will either come up with a title like this during the process of writing your book, or when you're finished writing it.

 2. If you're really struggling to come up with a title, maybe have a friend read your book and ask for advice with coming up with a title.

 3. You could incorporate your main character's name into the title. Here are a few examples: "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Julius Caesar," and "Anne of Green Gables."

 4. You could incorporate the setting of your book into the title. Here are a few examples: "The Jungle Book," and "Little House on the Prairie."

 5. Consider a mysterious title. This is bound to draw attention to your book; it will spark curiosity. The main quote from my book is, "Where there is light, there is a way out of the darkness." This is where my title, The Darkest Light came from. I thought of this quote while I was writing, and I was struggling for a way to incorporate it into the title and the book.

 6. Use an image from your book. For this, you'll want to pick something that will come up often throughout the story so the reader can connect the title to your writing.

 7. Use a familiar phrase, but twist it to make it your own. When you find that right phrase or sentence that could fit as your title, write it down and start twisting it around to make it fit with the story you've written. Even if it doesn’t match just so, it will get your readers thinking.

8. Write down every possible title that pops into your head. Make a list! This is important because what if you think of a title, but wasn't sure about it so you didn't write it down, but then, sometime down the road, you realize that it's actually perfect. You might have forgotten it! You might only be able to remember part of the title!

9. You could get an idea from other book titles. Read titles from the same genre of your book. I'm not saying steal another author's title, but it might inspire you to think of your own.

10. Try to keep your book title relatively short. Maybe don't reduce it to one word, but if you have a title that's too long, it can be difficult to remember. Long and surprising titles can spark interest, but sometimes, if they're too long like the self-publishing book I mentioned above, the title can be hard to remember. Can you imagine a friend coming to you and saying, "Hey, I just finished reading this book on self-publishing by How to Publish, Promote, & Sell Your Own Book: The insider's guide to everything you need to know about self-publishing from pasteup to publicity.'" Would you be able to remember that title? Doubtful.

Hope these tips help you come up with a title for your book!
